Bright & early hubby extraordinaire and I hit up our new neighborhood of Old Town Alexandria, VA to shoot the first of a five part series for online retailer Voguette.com. I dressed up (or down, whatevs) as a pretty little prepster for a casual Friday look. I donned a pair of Soludos navy and white striped espadrilles. Not to toot my own horn but this, my friends is how you transition your nautical stripes in to early Fall. Having just made the big move to our nation’s capital, my Miami-state-of-mind fails me when it comes to remembering it may or may not be chilly out this morning and hot as all H-E-double-hockey-sticks later on. Layer what you’ve got and of course, add my signature pop of color. Trekking around the city? Rock some Soludos shoes!
What I’m wearing: Soludos Espadrilles c/o Voguette.com, CRISH Designs Zodiac Necklace available at Voguette.com, J.Crew Neon Yellow Cable Knit Sweater (no longer available), Trouve Green Cargo Jacket purchased at Loehmann’s, Ann Taylor Shorts, H&M White Button Down, Ray Ban sunnies, Coach Classic (no really it was my momma’s), My grandfather’s vintage gold watch, Lips in Covergirl Spellbound #325
Espadrilles are great casual kicks if you live in an area where even November can mean questionable temperatures. Example: when I arrived to DC in September we had days at 60 degrees (Miamians, you’re allotted only one jawdrop per weather comment I make)… today was a high of 80 (All smiles!). Soludos = a summertime salvation and a pre-fall necessity. Your toes will thank you.
Want to know more? Designer, current New Yorker, and native Spaniard Nick Brown created Soludos in 2010. Giving a nod to the Spanish heritage of the shoe and laid back lifestyle, ‘Saludos’ the Spanish word for ‘Cheers’ and ‘Sol’ for sun were combined, and ‘Soludos’ was born. Why incorporate a sun theme you ask? The company designed a shoe and founded a company dedicated to making your summers better. And making summers longer. Endless, in fact. Brown is in love with an endless Summer. Aren’t we all Nick, aren’t we all.
Soludos shoes are based on the traditional espadrilles that have been sold in the markets and on beaches in the Mediterranean for centuries – just sexier and awesomer. The kicks feature trendy prints on 100% cotton – think of the moment looks like ikat chevron and stripes! Soludos shoes even come in cute to boot wedges if you’re looking to step up your shoe game. The natural eco-friendly jute sole is breathable (and your roommate will thank you for reducing the risk of stinky toes. The ultra thin rubber sole below that goes a long way, both protecting you in the unfortunate event of puddle trekking and providing the perfect comfort.

Love the layering!
