Inspired by the celebs stepping out in bright pink jackets, I began my hunt a few months back for an old version. “Old?“, you ask? Honestly, I just don’t think spending money on a contemporary blazer is worth it – if they’re affordable they’re probably not made like they used to be – blame it on my old soul or my wiseguy brains… whatevs. Sifting through my favorite 10,000 square foot thrift store in one of Miami’s most questionable neighborhoods may not the brightest idea, but it is certainly a worthwhile one. On my first hunt I found an awesome hot pink blazer at Red, White, & Blue Thrift in North Miami Beach that was ill-fitting but impeccably crafted. It was a lowly $9 and I spent $25 to get it tailored around the arms – 3 inch shoulder pads are not your friend but a great neighborhood tailor is. See how I styled it with a black maxi I sewed myself, strappy faux skin heels from TJ Maxx, Max Azria necklace from their outlet at Sawgrass Mills, Marc Jacobs retro sunglasses from Loehmann’s, and some extra H&M baubles!
